What actor/actress would play you in the story of your life?

Hola. I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who supported me last week through a crazy week of posting excerpts of my manuscripts. Your reactions and comments about my work and ideas, inspired me to plow forward on my quest toward publication.

One interesting thing that did occur; so many people suggested actors to play different roles. That is a game I often play with my family.

When I wrote The Executioner’s Diary, I thought of a younger Antonio Banderas as the perfect actor to play the role of a Cuban refugee turned hit man.  I once mailed him and his representatives a copy of my screenplay; but never heard back from them.

The role of Veyda in Paradox was written for Kate Beckinsale. With the few remaining humans accepting their dismal fate; Veyda is the tough soldier who refuses to believe humanity will become extinct. After watching her gritty performance in Underworld, I wanted Kate Beckinsale as my female lead. (It would also provide Lonely Author the opportunity to meet one of his  favorite actresses. Oh, God, she is so hot. Hey a chimp can dream can’t he?)

So, I ask you.

What actor /actress would play YOU in the movie about your life?

  1. I would like Kate Beckinsale to play me, because she’s super hot, but I really don’t know. I’ve never thought about it, really. Maybe Emma Stone or Jennifer Lawrence? They’re both pretty awesome and while they don’t really look like me at all, and probably don’t share my personality at all, they’re actors, so who cares, right!? And Emma Stone (and Jennifer Lawrence) are extremely good looking, too!

  2. Can’t say it’s something I’ve ever thought about.
When I write most of my stories I write as me. I did write a couple of film scripts which I had cast completely – I found it helped with the writing.
I quite like the idea of Maggie Smith narrating the story of my life but as to who would play a younger me I don’t really know 🙂

    1. That is very interesting. If you know a lot about your character, you can select an actor that would fit the role, then the writing of that character can flow. Excellent suggestion. Thanks. Maggie Smith as narrator? Hmmm. My narrator would be someone silly. Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Interesting question. I would want my youngest daughter to play me. She had always dreamed of being an actress and everybody says she is my “clone.” As far as a “real” actress? I would maybe go with Meryl Streep as well. Her soulful performance in “Sophies’ Choice” leads me to believe that she could capture the vast range of emotions that have scripted my life.

      1. I did see that movie but it didn’t impress me the way Sophies’ Choice did. I was more impressed with her as a person when I read that she and “Fredo” (from the Godfather) were involved. He was dying and she gave up her career for a few years to care for him. That touched me.

          1. She is pretty remarkable, isn’t she? She may be one of the greatest actresses ever. I think Tom Hanks is probably right on up there with Laurence Olivier. I never “liked” him but I didn’t “not like” him. I realized that I have almost every movie he ever made. He is another person who has a reputation for being a “decent human being.”.

            1. I think she probably is. As for Hanks, he is incredible. Hey you should take one day a week, to post about actors actresses or movies. You seem to know so much. A blog like that would be fascinating. Just one day a week. What do you think? It would be fun.

              1. Hmmm. I might piss a few people off. I tend to say exactly what I think. I’ve never been one to follow the great masses and some of those actors and actresses that are so beloved…..don’t hold much stance with me….but I’ll consider it. I may get the same response one of these betrayed women got when she posted all of the actors who have run off with their nannies. One reader criticized her for “spending too much time reading People magazine.

                  1. I know, right? I came to the womans’ defense but I tried to do it cordially. It just pissed me off. Nobody can possibility understand the devastation of betray unless they have been there and been them…and they certainly have no right to judge.
I want to throw something by you. I have a collection of things I have written…some no more than a sentence or two long. Instead of posting about movie stars, how about posting about my perception of random people? I could give you an example.

                    1. Okay but understand that I realize that I couldn’t hold a candle to the wonderful prose that you pen.
                      Here’s a simple one.
While sitting at a red light the other day, I watched a man who was probably in his late forties, trudging along, carrying a plastic bag. His clothes were rumpled, his beard was scruffy and he was losing his hair. He looked straight ahead, with the sole purpose of making it across the street before the light changed.
I wasn’t thinking “this man looks like he lives in a trailer park.”
I was thinking “I hope this man has somebody at home who loves him.”

                    3. What should I call you? I went through the same thing as you did. And I wasted years being miserable. Then, one day I said enough. And my whole life changed. I found an incredible woman. Great job. My writing has improved. I want to see you make that same recovery. Life is only once. We can’t waste it being unhappy. Everything I have said to you is only trying to be a friend. I truly care about people.

                    4. What should you call me in terms of my real name? I wouldn’t want it posted, but my real name is actually the name associated with the title of my post. Laurel Wolfe is sort of an anagram of the birthplace of my grandpa. He was born in Wolfe Laurel, North Carolina.
I was just sitting outside on my side porch and I was thinking about things you and others have said. It PISSES me off that I have allowed that Loser to take away the things I love, but God…..it’s such a tough road. I guess the best thing right now, is that I am still actually here. I fell hard and I’m having a Hell of a time getting back up, but I haven’t closed the coffin door yet.

                    5. Exactly! The coffin is not closed. And he ruined your life, but you are ruining it even more by dwelling on it. You want revenge? I got revenge from my ex by BEING HAPPY WITHOUT HER. She sees me now, and she gets jealous. I am dong better than her. And she would like to be with me again. All because I changed my attitude. About the name, give me a name you like me to call you.

I’m going to try to change my mindset. I can’t promise that every day will be a new adventure. I’m sure there will continue to be days where I feel like giving up, but I promise, I will try. I never break a promise.
You can call me by my nickname. Sayward.

                    7. I know. It’s the loss of my children that is the most devastating but I can’t have a relationship with them when they lay down rules like…I can’t mention my sons’ or youngest daughters’ names. But….that’s just another one of those hurdles that I have to overcome.

  4. I would have had Sitr Ian McKellan if it had been made about 40 years ago, pefect presence and strength but as camp as as row of tents, love him. But now it would have to be Taylor Lautner (Twilight Saga) versatile, beautiful and so many of the things I am not. Go down SInging I say!

  5. Alex Bledal would play me in the movie of my life! She will need brown contacts though :). I really enjoy her as an actress. She has a youthfulness about her although she is a lot older then she looks, which is the same case for me! She gives off innocence but at the same time, adult maturity.

    1. Two of the best. I have seen everything from both actors. Denzel is absolutely amazing. And Morgan, oh what a voice. He could read the back of a cereal box and make it interesting. Oh, that was a wonderful answer. Thanks for stopping by to contribute. Take care.

do I even know what I look like …..??? I look at my ID and feel so much pressure to look like myself when I have to use it to and I am asked “is this you???”

    1. I loved her ever since Titanic. Nice choice. You know actresses will do the hair color thing. Hey, some of them gain 40 or 50 pounds for role , changing hair color is no problem.

  7. Oh gosh, I feel like that’s a loaded question. Do we pick someone hot and seem egotistical or just the best actress?? It’s great that you can visualize your roles so completely. Who would you choose for yourself?

    1. You are the first person to ask me that. It has to be someone who can do a very serious role but can be funny, too. I am not saying I look as good as he does, but I think Bradley Cooper with hair dye could do a good me.

        1. No way. I think most people answered it that way. Robert DeNiro gained 40 or 50 fifty pounds for Raging Bull and The Untouchables. Christian Bale has done it as well. You know another actor who could play me Paul Giamatti. He plays that sarcastic humor very well. Cooper and Giamatti are on opposite sides of the spectrum when it comes to looks. But wither one could do me well.

            1. Yeah, but honestly, you’re an attractive woman and you wasn’t concerned with the “looks” of the actress. I posed the question, thinking in terms of personality. Funny how everyone interprets things differently.

  8. Someone just asked me that yesterday, because we were talking about how awesome it would be to have my book made into a movie. I dont know who would play the younger version of me, but the adult me? Angelina Jolie. Hmmm, now to sell the movie rights and make it happen.

  9. Wow! A LOT of take up.
I was asked this before and I would choose Matt Le Blanc or Idris Elba (which might be hard because he’s a tall, handsome Black guy and I’m a short ugly white guy in comparison!) So Matt Le Blanc as he plays himself in Episodes.
    Fucking comedy genius timing.

          1. She is part Lebanese. Close up you could tell I was not Shakira but the hair was very similar. I think she is much shorter than me. One little girl in an elevator pulled at her mom’s dress and whispered, “Is that Shakira?” I should have autographed something!!!

  10. Great question! I’d probably go for J.C.MacKenzie (Dark Angel/Murder One). We’re roughly the same age and build and he’s a good, competent actor that’s not messed up physically or mentally, can remember his lines, can do the job and is happy doing it and is no trouble to no-one. You know where you are with J.C.Mac: solid, reliable and dependable. In a world of superheroes, I’d be Bicycle Repair Man.

  11. It’s interesting. When I think of my characters, I normally have a very specific imaginary face / style / vibe in my mind, and an actor is not enough to portray what is in my mind. But I create pinterest boards too, with different illustrations / photographs / outfits / actors, etc.

    Now, an actress for me…
    Hmm, Megan Fox.
    Don’t.Ask. 😀

    1. Megan Fox wow.I won’t ask. lol So, the actors don’t help you with characters. Interesting. I find having actors in my head for the characters makes it easier to make them more life like. Thanks for stopping y Nya. Have a wonderful weekend.

  13. My family—and more than a few friends, including one couple in Disneyland, who actually asked for my autograph!—have all expressed at one time or another, that Steve Martin bares an uncanny resemblance to moi. Well this Steve Martin guy must be one handsome dude, because I’ve always felt that I kind of favor, Brad Pitt. Anyway, now when folks come up and ask for my autograph, I hand them a card that says, “You’ve just had an encounter with Brad Pitt. You found him intelligent, funny, and possibly the author of a blog known as, The Attic. And also looks a lot like one, Steve Martin. Who as it so happens, is quite jealous of the author of this said blog, but who also engages in a running feud with the author over who looks more like Brad Pitt.” Usually after meeting me they decide it’s no contest. Yep, you guessed it…they feel neither of us look like Brad Pitt!
