Forever Ballerina
There goes the silver haired lady
She moves with an unsteady gait
A cane keeps her from falling
A brace supports her extra weight
Teenagers mock the decrepit lady
Complain she moves too damn slow
Make callous jokes about her posture
They swear they will never grow old
Memories shield her from the insults
Always wears a smile upon her face
She goes home to ballerina slippers
To recall a time she moved with grace
This is wonderful. 🙂

Nice! When she was about 70, my mama told me that when she looked in the mirror, she wondered who that old woman was, that she still felt like 16 inside. I’m beginning to realize what she meant.
You did a wonderful job putting the feeling into a beautiful string of words.

Aw, thank you for saying that. Have you ever seen Benjmin Button? At the end of the movie they say people are the thing their heart thinks they are. I’ll forever be an astronomer. What about you?

I haven’t seen the movie, but I’ve heard about it.
As for me, an astronaut. I’d trade years of my life to at least step upon the surface of Mars–though going even farther would be mind-blowing.

Fascinating. We never forget our dreams. It was those thoughts that lead me to write that poem.

Hi. I don’t have words to express. I simply fell in love with this piece. From the title, the picture to the ending line. It is so beautifully written that I fear my comment might just taint it.

At some point, we all age and they shouldn’t be in a haste to discard her yet.
