Brotherhood of Man

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today…

……………..John Lennon

Brotherhood of Man

We witness brother killing brother
Violence against children too
Nothing more repulsive than the news
Mankind really has no clue

What are we teaching in classrooms
Tolerance is currently the plan
We should educate our children on
Acceptance of the other man

Differences can be settled differently
Violence is not the only choice
Perhaps we can rid the world of hate
If we all speak up in one voice

You can choose any God or evolution
Every hawk should be a dove
We could be a brotherhood of man
Imagine one community of love

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as on

……………………John  Lennon

    1. Thank you so much for reading. There has to be a better way. If the world wasn’t busy building bombs and killing imagine what we could accomplish solving problems like hunger and disease. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you have a good one.

      1. I’ll agree he was a prophet if it ever comes about. Until then he must remain a dreamer like the rest of us. He was right though that he’s not the only one. I think more and more of us are taking up the cry and hoping for a better future for those that will follow us instead of the perpetual wars we seem to be part of outside our countries and the killings inside. Hate must not gain control.

  2. Very well-written and I whole heartedly agree with the sentiment. We tend to get overwhelmed with all the need and discord in the world and aren’t sure how we could possibly make a difference. I start small. I live by the Golden Rule and I teach/enforce that Rule with my children. I lead by example and now, as they grow, they do the same. It only takes one person, one family, one school, one community at at time. Innately, we all want the same peace and harmony, we just have to remember that the only way to achieve it is to love one another. Thank you for sharing!!

    1. Thank you for contributing your sweet & thoughtful words to this post about peace and love. Bravo. If everyone taught their children to love wouldn’t this world be a better place? Thank you for reading. Your comments means so much to me.

      1. Thank you!! Actually snowed in, editing, tweeting, catching up on reading blogs, avoiding Facebook, showing my daughter Styx videos and then going to read or watch Netflix! Wish you the best in 2016 my friend x

  3. It would be nice if we could substitute every time we used the word ‘tolerance’ with ‘acceptance.’ People seem to believe that accepting something mean admitting compliance to. You don’t have to have the same beliefs in order accept it. Acceptance just means that I’m ok with you being you. Tolerance means that I’ll just put up with it.

  4. I like what you’re getting at here. I just happened to be watching the news in one of my patients rooms the other day. I work in labor and delivery so she was holding her newborn baby. The contrast of the ugly news flashing crime after crime, devastation after devastation against the innocence and purity of that new little life bright tears to my eyes. I am thankful for the hope of peace.
Also, good song! That Lennon fella was pretty inspiring.

  5. One of the best pieces I’ve read. These words should be placed in front of every person and read over and over until the message strikes home. Words like this are powerful enough to cause change in thinking, attitude and actions. Well done!

  6. I enjoyed your poem and love how you sandwiched it between two verses of one of my favorite songs. Well done. Well done. I am so glad you visited my site and prompted me to visit yours. What a treasure on this last day of 2015.

    1. Thank you for saying that. You made me smile. When you look at what is happening in the world today you almost begin to see John Lennon as a prophet. His words of peace and love are amazing. So inpiring to me. “Let It Be.” and “Give Peace A Chance.” He was amazing. Thanks for stopping by my blog as well. Hopefully, in 2016 we will get to become good friends. Wishing you and yours the best in 2016.

  7. Beautifully written words that should be held close and used to teach our children. So sad is this world where diversity is prevalent but acceptance is not. Blessings of the New Year!
