Through My Eyes

When I tell you that you’re beautiful
you don’t believe a word I say
when I tell you you’re amazing
you smile and walk away
you focus on a new wrinkle
complain about an extra pound or two
yet my opinion never matters
you swear I have no clue

You distort the vision before you
haven’t the faintest reason why
but you always fail to acknowledge
that mirrors never lie
perhaps I could help you love yourself
help you spread your wings and fly
if only you could admire your reflection
through my eyes

  7. If only the ones we love could see themselves as we see them, how wonderful they would feel about themselves. However, when media and society has determined what ‘beautiful’ is and isn’t, it’s tough for many who want to make every blemish disappear. Great piece, Andrew!

      1. I guess there is nothing better than love and actually, if you think of it, everything is love because everything is energy and love is the greatest source of energy 🙂

        1. Laughing. The Lonely Musher agrees with you 100%. There is nothing better than love. As for the Lonely Wifey, she loved this one. She suffers from that terrible affliction of looking in the mirror in search of flaws. Alas, she and others choose not to listen to the compliments of the person closest to them.

              1. Awww, you’re such a darling. I wonder how your wife even doubts herself anymore. Thank you dear, I am not planning to sell myself short though I may have done in the past. It is better to be alone and then have the right person in your life than to jump on the bandwagon just not to make your friends feel strange at parties or dinners out as couples 😀

  14. Feeling that you are beautiful has little to do with how you really look. Some people have loads of self confidence and healthy self esteem where others have little to none. Perhaps it’s the way they were raised, either praised and encouraged or constantly criticized. Whatever the case, sometimes a beautiful person can’t see what the person who loves them does. Which is why it’s so important to keep telling them. I loved this…

    1. Smiling. Agree with everything you said. Honestly, I have been with many types of women to the point where I have been accused that I don’t have a “type.” My desire has always been to connect with the person inside cause that is where you find true beauty. Thanks for your thoughtful words.

  29. Ohhh I love love this poem! I guess we, women, are overly critical of ourselves. Yes we do notice an increase in a pound or two. Or even our ever-graying hair..aahhh the list goes on and on.

    1. Exactly. You know one thing I love to see? Love lines (otherwise known as crow’s feet). I find it so sexy, but women fret about these things. Women are TOO critical of themselves. And it is a shame they never truly appreciate their own beauty. Thanks for stopping by.
