stirring thoughts
.
Two sugars in my coffee
My spoon begins to churn
My mind becomes all milky
Over a girl I haven’t met
Sweetened thoughts of her
Swirl in my caffeine head
As if they were blended
By the lazy ceiling fan
Sinking into the whirlpool
Notions spiral out of control
The fan continues stirring thoughts
While my coffee is getting cold
..
In all honestly, this poem should be labeled as a collaboration because in her poem entitled “no one’s world” my dear friend G. of Short Prose -Fiction ended her wonderful piece with the line “and your coffee’s getting cold.”
Please, take a moment to read her powerful poem that inspired my write; and see how she used contrasting lines in her finale as a delicious exclamation point.
‘My mind becomes all milky
Over a girl I haven’t met’
My heart is beaming. Such lovely lines 🙂

ironically I don’t sleep dream, the waking hour give me the best moments of imagination and wistful thinking. It was my pleasure to read your beautiful poetry, I had a similar fantasy about a cafe meeting and wrote a short story few years ago and it stands out more vividly than a real time encounter. Our minds are powerful tools! i think you would write a really good poem about that clock going off! your are welcome!

Funny, you should say that. Both poems took place with the poet deep in thought in public places. I found hers so powerful with the contrasts of the violence against the peacefulness of the bar. Mine, was about this silly romantic letting someone get into his head. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful observations. It is greatly appreciated. I sure hope G. gets to read your comment.

The coffee. The imagining. The fan stirring thoughts. The imagery and feel mix perfectly. The writing it’s self feels like it is the reader who is sitting there, chin cupped in hand, stirring their own coffee while their thoughts are being stirred.

First, sorry your day was so long.
I adore your interpretation of this poem. While all of the comments on this post acknowledge the poet’s mind is cluttered with swirling thoughts, you are the only person to realize the poem was all about “the girl I haven’t met.” Thank you for reading me so well.
Yes. I followed your suggestion regarding the sugar (well, I used one and a half today. I need to cut down slowly).
Seriously, thank you so much for the inspiration. This would never have been written without “no one’s world” coming first.
