echo of love

Dedicated to everyone who will be missing a loved one this holiday season.

echo of love

Time has no memory
yet he remembers
when one minute ends
another must begin

That perpetual hand delivers
fooling comfort
for everyone is confident
he will take another spin

He dims our memories
we forget his persistent ways
moving us toward
the inevitable we don’t speak of

Every clock has a final turn
So learn to listen with your heart
For within every beat remains
a beloved’s echo of love

  1. Time has left a canyon in my heart. I refuse to fear the precipice, though the view is indiscernible. I hear the echo you speak of.
Lonely, time may be a thief, but you are a Robin Hood with words, in this poem.

  3. Drew! Me encanta este poema. En serio, que maravilla. This poem has an almost otherworldly quality to it, as if inspiration came to you from the great beyond…It is truly haunting and soul-touching. Poets have often been able to feel things unseen to the ordinary eyes. Makes me think of the timeless lines in The little prince “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” This is my favorite poem of yours! You allude to so many important topics: the suppression of acknowledging one´s own and loved one´s mortality, society´s denial of one of live´s most basic truths, how important it is to honor who we love and express our love to them while they and we are around in physical form…as you can see, this is such an important topic to me. I will miss several of my closest loved ones this Christmas, but as you know, one kind of misses them every day… I find comfort in knowing that nothing is ever truly lost, and that love is an energy that is available in an abundance of places, not just family, if we manage to keep our hearts and minds open…wishing you peaceful days, dear Drew. Hasta pronto:)

  4. This was profound. There are layers and layers of deep meaning for the reader to peel away. I feel like this poem needs to be read a few times to fully embrace it. Even then it represents truth so many of us avoid facing, until it’s too late. Really well done!

  5. This beautiful post makes me feel a little sad, Andrew. It reminds me of someone, and something. Moments that are fading, no matter how hard I attempt to grasp them. But at some point, I know, the fading process will terminate. The fragments will remain. Those fragments, I know, will last a lifetime.

    Merry Christmas Andrew. 💙💜

  6. The last stanza really tagged at my heart
and I was a little teary-eyed reading it. Time gives an illusion of healing but the thoughts and memories stay intact.
    This is a masterpiece Drew.

  7. Loved the thoughtfulness behind this. Oh time. It’s such a fragile annoying concept isn’t it? Yet I’m glad we have it because it makes us appreciate the time we do have or did have with our beloved ones. Loved the read.

  8. What a beautiful and profound poem Drew. Time moves so quickly, and we are left with our memories. Years ago, after someone I loved died, I wrote this: “Death is conceived in the first breath of life.”

  9. Andrew, an incredibly moving poem … I read this and just had to pause, absorb the words and read again. It touches me deeply, beautiful and full of truth. This is one I will save to read again. You deserve all the wonderful comments and likes. Today was the birthday of someone I’ve lost … always a bittersweet day as I remember their childish love of their day, recall good memories but feel the gaping hole in all our lives. Very poignant poem & post.
