when a woman decides to forget (For all women battling domestic violence)

My long time followers know I am a crusader against domestic abuse. A precious friend finds herself trapped in a relationship of physical/mental abuse. Although her husband will never read my poem, this is for him and all the other losers.

when a woman decides to forget

a white table cloth
stained by unspoken words
lays dead in a frigid kitchen
like a red rose in a morgue of poetry
a barren tree outside the window
extends branches of remorse
for once a fallen leaf has wilted
it can never be reset
some fires can’t be rekindled
there is no going back
when a woman decides to forget

      1. Yes Drew. Shame breeds in silence and also, I feel that we keep quiet to protect the families around the people who choose to control and manipulate. Open communication is key.

  1. I think it is very sad that the abuser makes the woman feel that she is in the wrong but it is exactly the opposite. To walk away is the only solution and sometimes it takes many years of sadness. Very poignant poem. I worry for my daughters – just hope they will have happy relationships with a good man like I have.

    1. Of course, he always makes her feel as if it is her fault. That is how they trap these women.
Sadly, as you say, it oftens takes years of sadness, tears, and abuse before they find the strength
to walk away. I wish all the best to your daughter. I have one of my own, and I always worry for her.

    1. Happy you liked my poem. Violence is something I have often spoken about. as a victim of domestic violence
I know what many are going through.
That is very kind of you to write about the subject. We need more words like this in the world.
      Violence must end.

  5. Domestic violence must end! This is one reason why I started my blog. I want to be part of the movement that encourages women to love themselves. Empower them to end the viscous cycles that sometimes go on in life. This is a really good poem.

    1. Thak you very much for taking the time out to read and share your important views. Domestic violence often becomes a vicious cycle being passed down from generation to generation.

  6. So profound. I also feel trapped in my abusive ‘marriage’ and that’s why I’ve come here to write about it to hopefully heal and who knows maybe find the courage to act… thank you.

  7. I worry for future generations of young women because there are too many examples of women being mistreated in modern culture and social media. To the point where teenage females begin to think that being slapped around is part of foreplay. Parents should teach their children that hitting a girlfriend or boyfriend is not healthy.
