floating on rhythmless seas

“I don’t know if we each have a destiny. Or if we’re all just floating around accidental, like on a breeze. But I think, maybe it’s both.” – Tom Hanks (Forrest Gump)

floating on rhythmless seas

i am a poet
a vagabond soul
captain of a rudderless ship
floating on rhythmless seas
navigated by unseen winds
finding random friends
whenever they appear
accidentally

the ocean is wide
my sail so brief
each wave is an opportunity
luck or chance or inevitability
i cherish every moment
i love ’til it hurts
for who knows where
the currents will take me
as I drift towards my final destiny

    1. When I first heard about the church project I begged to be a part of it.
I knew nothing about construction, but it was something I had to do for me soul.
Thank you for leaving a comment here. I truly appreciate it.
The world could always use more temple, churches, and synagogues. Anything
      that promotes love and peace.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Appreciated and very grateful.

    1. Sure, destiny plays a role, but sometimes I just think we are floating along as life takes us in unexpected directions.

  4. Andrew, I read this when you wrote it. Today I set aside time because I wanted to tell you, and not forget, how much I love it. “I love until it hurts…” is very familiar. It always hurts, doesn’t it? But that’s the deal we make. It’s worth the price. Almost always. No, actually — always. Because even when it’s over and the person was terrible, or we were, or both, we learned so much. Hmm, sorry to be “waxing elegant” all over your comment section but I’ve missed you and wanted to reconnect *hugs* and love. ā™„. Niki

  5. Is there symbolism in the graph-paper pattern of the little boat?
Was there once a rhythm? An order to the waves…
A yearning to be washed clean… to have the straight lines and right angles
Washed away by the rhythm… of a rhythmless sea?

    1. You know, Ireally wasn’t paying attention to the graph paper. I mean, I know it was a paper boat. Graph paper is all about
graphs, numbers, accounting. All dealing in the exact.

This is one of the most thought provoking comments I have ever received. You really have me thinking about that little paper
boat. Also, makes me happy that I chose that particular image, it fits so perfectly with the post.

Thank you for taking the time out to share your profound thoughts. I will treasure this message.

Forrest Gump is also one of my all-time favorite movies. Never tire of watching it.
And your beautiful compliment. Honestly, grateful for your kind words.
      Thank you for saying them.

Also, I think it is a little of both.
