my tiny hut: making it girlfriend friendly

my tiny hut: making it girlfriend friendly

When I decided to build a tiny home, I asked myself what I needed. Tired of bouncing from friend’s home to friend’s home, from hotel to hotel. I needed 3 things; a place to write, sleep, and store my belongings.

Then, I added a fourth. it needed to be appealing to my future lady, the girl I haven’t met. I don’t expect any woman to quit her job or career, but I want her to be comfy knowing we have a little place to escape, not far from the beach.

So, I added touches for a woman’s comfort.

The windows are slightly tinted. Sunlight will enter but never overwhelm. The heavy drapes will prevent light from disturbing at night in case she is a light sleeper.

Of course a powerful A/C, celing fan, and generator for when the electricity goes out.

Finally, plenty of light (14 ceiling lights), in case she is a reader/writer/blogger.

And when she wants no lights, we can set the mood. (16 different colors)

Speaking of light, when she presses the red button of light on the bathroom mirror…

She has light.

Since we are talking bathrooms. I love rain showers, but just in case we are going out and she doesn’t want to wet her hair, there is a handheld rain shower.

Of course, a walk-in closet with shoe rack (but you already knew that). GO YANKEES.

A king sized bed (Beach Boy likes to frolic) with two USB night tables so she can charge her mobile devices by the bed. Bedroom set also included a matching dress/mirror.

Hopefully, the girl I haven’t met will feel comfy here.

I never cook when I am on the island. So kitchen and livingroom will be added on a future trip. More bedrooms? Depends on how many children she may have. We will decide that when the time comes.

Ladies, what have I missed?

Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go……

  2. Fabulous, Drew. It’s the perfect hide-a-way when the stress of life gets to be more than we want to be involved with. You’ve managed to add so many perks that any woman would love. Great color selections. In my former (of many careers) interior decorating, I would have said the color choices were perfect. Colorful accessories can be added to the neutrals. You get 5 ***** for a stellar job.
Do I hear air-b-&-b in the air? 😂
    Isadora 😎
PS: for me … and it’s only me … a humongous closet would be nice. LOLOL
PPS: I know. Who needs a humongous closet when all you need is a bikini and a slinky night gown. 😁

    1. That is exactly why I built it. To get away from the stress when I need to.
I am so happy you said I added the right touches for women. That makes me so happy.
You did interior decorating. I had no idea. I bet your were wonderful at it.

Oh, the closet is big . And my stuff takes up less than 10%. And I think you know me well
enough to know, it has a big shoe rack, too. A girl can never have enough shoes.

Oh, I love this comment. Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful thoughts.
They ruly made me happy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

      1. YUP … had that career for a few years. The jewelry I was wearing … made by me … was admired and requested by women so much I decided to change careers. I’m glad I did. Did that for a good amount of time. Now, I’m living la vida tranquila en mi paradiso de Florida.
I hope you get to enjoy your quiet respite as many times as you’d like. It will be an amazing place to regroup. BRAVO … for creating a place that will give you that peace. 😁 😎

          1. I have an Etsy shop but I’m enjoying blogging better so I don’t always post things. Last time I did was about a year ago. 😳😜😎
YUP … once you live in paradise, you wonder why you missed this fabulous place. 👍🏻😎

  3. A little piece of paradise! Looks great Drew, you have thought of everything and kept the colors neutral so when she comes she can add splashes of color that she likes. Well done!

    1. So happy to hear you say this. I worried about everything during construction.
Oh, the splash of colors is coming; throw pillows, murals on the wall.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and suggestion.
Appreciate your honest words. They were very helpful.
      Thanks.

Beautiful space – inside & out. Literally Andy. You are a poet in every sense of the word.

“What you seek is seeking you.”

    She is on her way.

      1. You’re so thoughtful. Most woman, would appreciate just the effort, even if you got it all wrong. Though quite impressive the details you choose and the color scheme is neutral for both to enjoy.

  5. That’s a hut?
I was thinking more ……… rustic.
Your hut looks more modern than my apartment. I do a have a 300 sq. ft Gown room… dedicated to building Art Gowns. So, there is that. Although, the plank wood floor are 130 years old… so they look quite rustic.
I need to keep that fake hemp rug in there because Judy’s wheels would make hay out of the old wood.
Unfortunately, the rug in the Gown room is the favoured place for the cats to vomit, so it’s got that rustic look, too.
Definitely, your hut looks more modern than my apartment.

      1. I love it!!!!
It’s just that I wasn’t expecting something so polished!
I’d live there in a hot sec.
You are a poet, a writer and an interior designer. ❦❦
You made me laugh! Quaint rug, indeed. Quaint cats, too!
Lonely, I love those soft, furry, purry, vomituous critters.
Their fave spot is right on the tail of the gown. I pin the tail up every night. Lol!

    1. I built a fortress John. The roof has two steel mesh barriers that will take thieves hours to get through.
Every window will have iron bars that will help protect my home. Even the door which appears wooden, is
      actually metal.
So, it should be fairly safe my friend.

    1. Grateful that you do. I have always had a things for shades of gray and contrasting them against one another.
Perhaps, it is my New York background. Once Autumn arrives….everyone is dressed in black and grays.
Thank you for your lovely comment and appreciation.
Always so happy to hear from you.

  6. Wow! Impressive. A lot of attention to detail. I wonder if you already know this woman but just haven’t met her yet. Have you known her forever? Is this where you live, or a getaway place? Happy building, man! You can really keep adding on, that’s wonderful….

and I was instantly convinced. It is a great mood setter for writing and other things.

  7. I´m not a lady sorry, but having helped my parents move from a big house in the mountains to a 1614,59 square feet apartment, I have learned a lot how to make use of small spaces. You’ll have to pay me though if you really want the secrets to make small spaces look bigger and the rest. I myself live in a room that I rent that is basically a little bigger than a jail cell so I’m pretty good at making spaces for everything, it was hard to put a lot of books though in that freaking little room I live in. But for 150$ a month, wifi, t.v. bed, I’m good to go.
Very nice house, I’m pretty sure you’re not a lonely author with that big nice bed.
