an imperfect flower (For All Women)

Real beauty is in the fragility of your petals. A rose that never wilts isn’t a rose at all.” – Crystal Woods, author, stage coach, pro bikini athlete, child abuse advocate.

When I think of this Inspiring Woman of WordPress , I think of delicate flowers. As a little girl, she admired the prairies. As a young woman she overcame adversity and bloomed into a Costume Designer dressing the stars of film & television. That is the inspiring story of my precious friend Resa at Art Gowns. To see videos of her stunning creations click here. Her beautiful sketches & sweet personality always touches my soul. Resa doesn’t make gowns, she creates wearable poetry.

an imperfect flower

an imperfect flower
grows in a flawless garden
forever afraid to bloom
ashamed of her weather-beaten stem
and frail leaves
she fails to understand
her damaged petals
are what makes her beautiful
to me

  2. Wow, Resa is so talented, I had only seen her art collaborations with Charlie and did not realise she made these gowns as well.

The whole sentiment of this post and poem, celebrating women, for their talents, adversities and flaws, is simply beautiful. And the poem… it’s words like these that allows flowers to bloom. Lost for words. It’s beautiful.

    1. Rachel, it is our flaws that make us humble and beautiful. I really believe that. We shouldn’t focus on the negative as much as we do. And I believe women are so guilty of this. Advertising, magazines, Hollywood paint this pictures of how women should be and appear. Screw that.

Everyone has flaws. They make us unique and interesting

Resa, is so talented. I have so much fun with her. She is sweet and inspiring.

Thank you for your wonderful and much too generous praise. You are wonderful. Thank you.

            You are so inspiring.”

  6. This is a great poem reminding us of the beauty of embracing our imperfections. You’ve penned a beautiful tribute to Resa and all who think less of themselves. Who wouldn’t love a friend who writes love poems to lift us up and remind us of our beauty. This series of posts featuring women who inspire you is a wonderful gift to us all. Thank you Drew.

    1. Brad, you nailed it. Everyone (not only women) should embrace our imperfections.
It is what makes us unique and truly fascinating. I guess most men don’t worry about it as much, but I know many women do. And it sad and nfair that they are so harsh on themselves. Life is too short to worry about this little blemish or that little defect. Just love yourself.

Resa is amazing. I love the gowns she creates. And beyond that she is a wonderful woman. Caring, sweet, with a brilliant heart.

Humbled and grateful you are enjoying this series. I was unsure how it would be received. Very glad it appears many are happy with it. I am thrilled to post them and honestly, honored that these inspiring women have given me the chance to
highlight their brilliance. I am a lucky dude.

So floored by your humbling words. Touched beyond belief. That is thew way I see women. That is the way I want to treat them.
Not to say they are helpless or inferior in any way. Just want to recognize their gentleness, their caring ways, their ability
to give and give, often getting nothing in return. Womanhood always amazes me.

Only I can pen….oh my God, you are way to generous and sweet.

You make me shake my head with your beautiful words and appreciation.

  9. Drew, what a touching and sweet tribute once again! I love Resa´s art gowns, and you described them perfectly as wearable poetry! Looking at those gowns and sketches evokes feelings of wonder and excitement about the power of imagination and creativity in me…It almost transports me into a way of viewing the world through the eyes of a child… there is an ethereal quality to Resa´s art that I truly appreciate. And love your celebration and appreciation of vulnerability and imperfection – that truly is something we need to remember and integrate into our worldview, I find…. Gracias Drew! And congrats on your cute little Axel! Abrazotes xox

Am over the moon and feel so humbled and honored that you would mention me on your oasis-of-love and place of honoring the feminine-site again. I am lost for words querido!! You are so sweet. I can´t currently comment on your new post, so am just thanking you here for all your incredible kindness:) I am really touched!!

I am so proud of you for having ventured away from home for so long for the first time, isn´t that an amazing experience? 🙂 Hope you had a safe and relaxed flight (now I sound like a pilot lol). Also, querido, dejame decir – am so happy for you to hear about what you wrote regarding your head and heart being in sync!! Que bien!!! Btw, my happiest moments have not always been when I was in relationships, but when I was at peace with myself..independent from being partnered up or not….and surrounded by nature. You are surely living your purpose through your fantastic work of love here, and may I say- I believe you never ever failed your mum….Maybe her role was to inspire you to do exactly this type of work you are doing now… through her path, which was her choice, and never yours, though…we can´t always protect the ones we love…but your work now casts a symbolic shield of love and protection around all those you bless with your loving words…and many more who read them:) Gracias de nuevo, sending you so much love! xoxoxo

We are all broken in some way. I just wish women would accept the idea they don’t have to be a super model or perfect or a size 4. I wish they would love themselves as they are and understand that a man wo truly loves them, will love them as they are as well.
