in your arms

in your arms

the sun has fallen
the moon refuses to rise
loneliness sits beside me
wearing a pink carnation
mourning the death of my pride
fear shaves in my mirror
he only has one eye
thus, he fails to see
the shooting stars in the window
no wait, they are the headlights
of cars passing by
so, I can’t make a wish
but if I could…..
I’d wish to die in your arms
just to hear you whisper goodbye

  1. At least loneliness had the decency to mourn the loss of your pride. I’m not even sure why that comes to my thoughts but it is exactly what I think every time I have reread this.

  2. Going through a time, here… a relative not doing well – if the couple adored poetry I would offer this to them – but they are more practical – perhaps romantic in a different way that I cannot see. So I will have to sigh for them…

Loneliness may be clothed here, but your insight on pride, loneliness and fear are bared for all to see in all its poignant intricacy. This is a shockingly relatable; terribly heart wrenching, beautifully designed poem.
Do you even know how effortlessly moving your art is, Drew?

  4. Strangely (I never use this adjective) the first words I thought of to describe this piece: hauntingly beautiful. That incredible description at the beginning to describe when the sun goes down and the moon doesn’t appear, mixed in with no stars and car lights merely passing. It really paints a picture of longing, and then for even more extra depth, you end it on the powerful: “just to hear you whisper goodbye”. An amazingly written piece Andrew.

  7. WOW!!!! This was absolutely touching Drew, nothing more stronger than love worth dying for…. if this happened at the end of a movie, there wouldn’t be a dry eye in the theatre! The illusionistic vision of shooting stars when they were just headlights symbolizing a limited time with one another, and the beauty of a dying wish….you are amazing!🌹🌹

  9. Drew, I didn’t want to ‘like’ your post, because I am so sorry you have lost this beautiful and clearly inspirational woman in your life. But honey, I want you to know I’m thinking of you and Ally and all those that loved Maria Luna. Her soul shines through her smile in that picture, I bet today you are filled with memories and love for her. And devastation… You kissed her palm and had a special place in her heart. Drew, I am so so sad for you. Sending you so much love and a huge hug. How are you?

    1. Well, Rachel. WordPress isn’t like Facebook which provides a crying button. I understand the whole like thing, so don’t worry.

This woman was so loved in the province. Everyone seemed to know her. She was Godmother to sixty or seventy people. Sadly, because of this pandemic family members, friends, grand and God children from New York were not able to fly down to pay their last respects.

Maria passed early this morning with some of her children by her side. We buried her early this afternoon. I was one of the few non-family members that was allowed to attend the private service.

My heart is bleeding so many memories. Every time I think I have run out of tears, I begin to cry again. I am trying my best to remain calm. My heart should not be strained or pained.

Yeah, she always teased me about kissing her palm. It happaned by accident the first time I met her and it was a personal joke between the two of us. I continued our little tradition through all these years. Even with her blindness and alzheimer’s she would remember me with the kiss on the palm.
Andresito she would call out. I am smiling through the tears recalling her reactions.

Thank you so much. I really wish you were here. One great woman, helping me with this painful loss of another.

I am okay. Wounded. Just reset my posts. A poem scheduled for tonight will posts on Thursday. A no comment post will hit tonight. so I can a moment to catch my breath.

I am as well as can be under the circumstances. Just finished a long three hour nap which rid me of a terrible headache.

Damn, this must be one mother of a ramble comment.
Thank you for eveythting. It really means a lot to me.

      1. My heart is aching for you… Andresito, how could she ever forget your kiss on her palm? I have no doubt you had a very special place in her heart. She had sixty or seventy godchildren? Wow, that is so impressive. It says a lot that you were allowed to go to her funeral if no other no family were. So sad people from New York weren’t able to go.

I am so sorry this has happened, and with this timing. Hang in there Andresito. You need to take care of yourself more than ever. I wish there was more I could do. But you are in my thoughts.
        ♥️♥️

        1. The timing….God, I don’t know what to say about that. If I were back in Florida I would have flown back. So, that is all I am going to say about that.

Me, I am trying to relax. Elena my nurse was there. She was Maria’s nurse as well. Blood pressure is kind of roller coaster today. So i will probably spend the rest of the day working on my novels or poetry.

Thank you for everything Rachel. Mucho needed and appreciated right now.

                    1. So it’s kind of special that her death is on such a holy day? She would have wanted that?

Yes, my Monday. It’s another holiday here and I’m having a very lazy day. Rubbish weather..
