To All My Followers

Friends, it’s not that serious. The reason for this long ass post are the two dozen times I have been asked on different blogs, if Youtube is how I will be blogging. Without offending anyone, I would like to answer everyone once.

This past November, I came to the firm decision to never blog again. I had over 10,000 followers, great times, and basically I had nothing left to accomplish. It no longer stirred my passions.

Friends in New York and the Dominican Republic begged me to continue. Then, my best friend Titi (who tried to create a Lonely Author app) convinced me Youtube was the next step in the Beach Boy’s evolution.

I started playing around with the idea, and so many creative possibilities came to me.

Youtube offers me the opportunity to move beyond this two dimensional world. I can recite poetry that can be truly heard. I can inject humor, my personality, and multiple images in my posts. I can share more of ME (every tragedy and triumphant).

But beyond that; I can post things to do in Orlando, the things beyond the expensive theme parks. I will develop posts on how to successfully move to Florida and why you may want to. I can take you on my vacations. We can explore beaches, I can suggest resorts and hotels. You can live my exploits with me.

Best of all, now, during my lonely hours; I am speaking to you.

More importantly, instead of introducing poets, authors, and bloggers by a reblog, retweet, or mention on my blog, I can truly introduce you to them. Poetry will be recited by two guest poets next week. Get a chance to meet the bloggers you have followed. Hear them recite their poetry or novelists discuss their latest novel.

I have always been happy helping others, now I have the platform to do just that.

Regarding my Youtube channel. You don’t like the platform? I am not asking you to switch to vlogging. Continue doing what MAKES YOU HAPPY.

1- Like my videos on YOUTUBE (or like both blog and Youtube). Click on the video, hit like, and close it and move onto the next blog you are reading. EVERY YOUTUBE like helps my effort. Even if you don’t watch the video. Friends keep saying they are hitting like, but my first video has over 600+ likes on the blog, only 81 on Youtube.

2- THIS IS FOR ALL MY SUPER HERO FRIENDS; Afraid your identity will be revealed if you comment. Long ago, I created The Lonely Author gmail. I opened this blog, my Youtube channel, Twitter, AllMyLinks, and Instagram accounts all with this one email. I actually do much of my business and commenting throughout the internet with this identity. You can create one for your blog with your blog icon. Then, comment away IF YOU LIKE. You will never need to remove your mask or cape.

3- I have friends in the Dominican Republic who don’t understand a word I say in the videos. They hit play, let the video run in its entirety on MUTE, while they cook, tend the laundry, go to the bathroom, bathe their children. They don’t even pay attention. But it helps.

4- Come discuss your book or blog, or recite your poetry. Your photo or identity never needs to be revealed. I was a child actor, managed call centers for prestigious institutions, none of you know my real identity. Come on my show, no one will know yours, not even me.

What I will do to help you follow me? I will recite my poetry in the first minute of my videos. My blog posts will have a timeline, so you know exactly when the part you want to listen to plays. If you have any suggestions please, feel free to make them here on this post.

Everyone has to find their own happiness, I have found mine. Life is too short. Be happy. It’s a choice, not something we have to achieve or work for.

You want to help me or follow me, great.

You don’t want to follow me. That is good, too. I won’t be offended. Before starting this venture, I put on my big boy swimming trunks. I am a born and bred New Yorker, a real nice guy with the THICKEST SKIN.

You may be thinking…….The Lonely Author is out of his mind trading in 10,000 followers for 100. Perhaps, but I will take 100 faithful, supportive friends any day.

  2. If artists chose validation over passion, Drew, they wouldn’t be true to their souls, and I applaud both your choice and your wonderfully penned post. One of the greatest perks of ‘knowing’ you on YouTube is that I could now read this post in ‘your voice’ 😉 If 2020 has taught us anything, it is exactly what you said in your post – Life is too short to be anything but happy.

    1. Isha, these videos are filling my heart with smiles. When I first started seriously thinking about Youtube and the endless possibilities, it accelerated my recovery. So many wonderful and creative ideas came to me.
      Life is too short to be anything but happy.

        1. Oh, Isha., you have me beaming. This Youtube thing pulled me out of my mini-depression during my recovery. There is so much I can do with old poems and new ones. The creativity is endless.

          You are a treasure……

          I really want to help bloggers. If I can grow this channel, with a real following from bloggers, Instagram, and Twitter, and with my regular posts of travel and tourism, along with my crazy life, I may draw in followers from all walks of life. With a large enough following, perhaps editors or publishers will drop in. The possibilities are infinite if this has success.

  4. I completely understand where you are coming from. I think it is a good vision you have to move into video with more three dimensional elements that can better evoke emotions through two of our primary senses. Although, you will probably be stuck with posting “check out my latest video” posts for a while.

    1. This crazy little venture is filling so many voids in my life. It is challenging my creative juices. It is making me so happy and fulfilled.

      And I agree with you. I think the videos give me an opportunity to evoke more emotion.

      I know I will be stuck with the posting “check out my latest video. But to be honest, at this moment, I am thinking of my Instagram, Twitter, and BLOG accounts as places to advertise. I post photos of my day on Twitter and Instagram, but everything I do is trying to drive followers to Youtube.

      While I have your attention; would you consider being a guest one day? You can play an orinigal song. We post some of your best photos with it. You can discuss whatever you choose. Think about it.

        1. Oh, take care of you plate (and eat all your veggies). I understand.

          On a side note, I already had poetry submissions from phone app recordings and I was able to use them seamlessly in iMovie.
          So, I am all good on that front.

            1. I struggled the first few days, but I have the hang of it and I am getting better and better.

              I have a question. I downloaded songs from Epidemic Sound a website for royalty free songs. And Youtube made me take it down.
              Does that make sense?

              1. If the music isn’t really royalty free. Yes. it makes sense. I posted a video of a friend singing Ave Maria and got a take down notice. It had two separate copyright claims on it. I was really surprised.

                The copyrights on music can be complicated. If there are lyrics in the music, the rights and permissions needed for lyrics are usually separate from the music.

                I would suggests making your own music. It might be easier than you think.

  8. Hey Andrew. When I hit “Comment” on your post, I get an “Oops that page doesn’t exist.” message This has happened twice now. I got to comments by hitting “like.” As to your new venture, best wishes on whatever you choose to do. Might be fun for sure. I have had trouble hitting “like” on the video too. I subscribed but found no “like ” button. I’ll pay closer attention next time.

      Thank you for your support. I envision a channel that will attract poets and writers from all social media platforms. And since I will posting my exploits and vacations, it may interest regular citizens. With a little luck we can make this big and maybe a publishert or editor will follow or listen.

A few days ago I started to follow you, on YouTube, it seems to me that, with all due respect, you have an incredible voice, besides that I admire your work, go for your dream!   27. I completely understand needing to switch gears.. for which I’m a little bummed having just found you. Unfortunately where I live, it’s very erratic to be able to stream videos from YT. (No wifi, no Internet, super rural.) Maybe here and there I can find you there. I wish you much happiness 💋

  36. I love youtube. I follow lots of great channels. I’ll look out for yours. I’ve thought about starting one, but it’s a bit too mucho for me to take on atm, although it May happen one day.
    Why not do both? Blogging and youtube? I think they reach different group of people with different needs and interests.
