Pantomime

She loved him in loud silence
her heart cried out in quiet agony
every day that she went unnoticed
led to barren nights lost in chastity

She loved him from a distance
thought she worked by his side
they would be so perfect together
her insecurities dared not confide

She vowed to love him for eternity
her life lacked rhythm or rhyme
she would adore him in loud silence
With a heartfelt pantomime

This a reblog for anyone who may have missed it the first time and for my newer blogging friends.  Still struggling with the vision.  I have tried to keep up with the reading posts. WordPress still does not allow me to comment on blogs.  Miss the conversations.  I will reply on my blog today, if WordPress allows.

Describe Yourself In One Sentence

funny-chimp-on-a-beach

To start her Junior year, my daughter had to submit a five page introductory paper describing herself and her life. This past weekend I had a chance to read it.

On page two she had three thick paragraphs, nearly the entire page describing her combative relationship with her mother.

I anxiously rushed to page three imagining I would warrant an entire page. This is what she wrote.

“My father is a strong passionate man with nine herniated disks, but he doesn’t care, he laughs his pains away – actually he laughs all his troubles away.”

That was it. One measly freaking line.

The contrasting descriptions made me think of how descriptions have changed in literature.

Miguel de Cervantes, Victor Hugo, and Jane Austen wrote pages of description. In one of my favorite novels, The Godfather, Mario Puzo used quite bit of description.

In today’s novels, description is kept to a minimum. In screen writing it is almost bare bones.

You read my daughter’s description.

Feel free to take a turn. Describe yourself in one sentence.  Or if you prefer, describe me in one sentence.

Thanks for reading.

Jack (A Short Story of Love)

shutterstock_79607809

Jack steered the car onto a quiet side road. He hit the brakes as a streaking cat shot by.

What a freaking day.

His boss was in a foul mood. Computers systems were down all day. The deal he was expecting fell through. The money for the car repair meant no summer vacation. And his cell phone fell in a puddle.

He watched the wipers clear his wet window, certain it only rained on him.

Staring at the broken umbrella on the car floor, he shrugged. Why bother. He was already soaking wet.

Why he put up with all this crap. There had to be a better way. Is this all there is to life?

Stepping out of the car, heavy rain pelted him.

He hurried to the door. Fumbling with the keys he dropped them and cursed Murphy and his stupid law.

He entered the house and walked past his pretty girlfriend, grunting a cold hello.

She stood there happy to see him, but disappointed by his tone. Obviously, he wasn’t in the mood to notice her new dress or hairdo.

Jack dropped onto the recliner and sighed. He saw his girlfriend disappear into the back.

Leaning forward, he rested his elbows on his knees and buried his face in his hands. What were all these damn sacrifices for?

“Jack.”

He looked up to find his naked girlfriend. She handed him a stiff drink. Ice cubes clicked, but she had his undivided attention.

She sank to one knee, unlaced his shoes to remove his wet socks.

Still resting on one knee, she looked into his eyes, opened her palm to reveal a wedding band.

“Jack will you marry me?”

He smiled; the first smile of this glorious day.

First Sight

It didn’t matter how many times he looked at her
He’s seen that smile a thousand times before
He was familiar with her morning breath
But for some reason he always needed more

It didn’t matter how many times he looked at her
Routine days followed by repetitious nights
So many times he saw her at her worst
Each time he admired her it was love at first sight

Through My Eyes

girl in mirror

Through My Eyes

When I tell you that you’re beautiful
you don’t believe a word I say
when I tell you you’re amazing
you smile and walk away
you focus on a new wrinkle
complain about an extra pound or two
yet my opinion never matters
you swear I have no clue

You distort the vision before you
haven’t the faintest reason why
but you always fail to acknowledge
that mirrors never lie
perhaps I could help you love yourself
help you spread your wings and fly
if only you could admire your reflection

Slave to Love

This piece was inspired by Bryan Ferry’s song “Slave To Love,” which was featured in the movie “9 1/2 Weeks” starring Kim Basinger and Mickey Rourke.

Slave To Love

Chained by desire
He keeps her begging for more
For him she’ll do anything
Be his everything
His angel
His whore

Igniting her passions
Her lover slowly drives her insane
He teases her to the brink
He fulfills her needs
The pleasure
The pain

He is her addiction
A thirst that can never be quenched
She needs it again and again
She’s a slave to love
His siren
His wench

Melted

For the next six weeks (leading up to Valentine’s Day) Lonely Author will dedicate most of his posts to his favorite subject; that thing called “Love.”

Melted

We shared glances from a distance
Like beacons in a crowded room
Our bodies gravitated to the center
fingers entwined like bride and groom
dance floor darkened like the universe
yet I found myself basking in her light
cheek to cheek we swayed in unison
flames of passions dancing with delight

Intoxicated by her scent skin and touch
was she feeling the wonders that I felt
adjoining hearts performed a sweet ballet
I shrunk inside my shirt my pants my belt
suddenly she was no longer in my arms
lights go on as the music is finally done
finding our empty shoes I suddenly realize
this beauty and I slowly melted into one

Devil Girl Diaries – 9 (The Attack)

1ae95f0f-5624-4fe8-a38f-e702d369d344

Every man has that one unforgettable woman that will haunt him until his final day; the girl that got away. Allie detested television, vanilla ice cream, and missionary. She explored the depths of her sexuality; while I discovered the heights of my pain. My muse had a nickname. I called her Devil Girl. I write these words to ease my sorrows. My name is Andrew.

This is our story.

Freaky Friday
That is what she called them
I called it my excursion into hell
this Friday she wanted to see porn
a tame and lame proposition
much safer than the norm
Imagining the fun we would have
Her full breasts and sweet legs in lingerie
Her mouth performing magic on my torso
unlocking the door to my apartment
I wondered if she had already arrived
Anxious for the festivities to begin
Entering the silent darkness
Don’t move a deep voice thundered
A cold metal pressed into my neck
Chills ran up my spine
I trembled like a wet dog in a storm
A gun sank into the softness of my cheek
Blood drained from my heart
One questioned frightened me more than the weapons
Did I arrive before my Devil Girl

Lonely Author: Let’s Talk Resolutions

First, I don’t make resolutions I prefer to set goals. And I don’t want to get all philosophical either. But when the clock strikes 2016, it will be thirty years since I kissed my parents on New Years Day.

My philosophy:  Live, Love, Laugh

For anyone who hasn’t decided on resolutions I have a few suggestions:

  1. Be proactive about your health. I never see this on anyone’s list, but it should be there.
  2. Laugh more. Love more. Life is stressful whether you laugh, love, complain, or cry. Choose laughter & love. They are the best options.
  3. Do what makes you happy. Don’t fool yourself. Happiness is a choice you make everyday (not a goal or destination). Don’t spend your life looking for the cloud behind every silver lining. Be happy.
  4. Surround yourself with positive people and thoughts. This is plain and simple. Happiness attracts positive things to your life.
  5. Gratitude. Be grateful for what you have, nothing lasts forever. When you learn to focus on the glass half full, it changes everything in your life.

Hoping you and yours will be Living, Loving, Laughing in 2016
