only the ocean and me

only the ocean and me

It wasn’t the best of weekends. I read a threatening poem dedicated to a friend. Meanwhile, another friend received angry, unkind messages because of a post I shared on Friday.

My blog has been a vehicle for me to promote women and love. There has always been one constant message – positivity.  It is all I know.

I refuse to condone, accept, or promote hate, envy, bullying, or violence. Love, acceptance, and understanding are the cure.

During my worst moments, I always retreat to my favorite lady. She always resets my mind, my inner peace, and priorities.

I often feel these lyrics by Jack Johnson were written for me.

When this work is done
And this coat is dry
When this world is too much
It will be
Only the ocean and me

When these sails go up
Mountains fade away
Stars come out
I’m finally free
it’s only the ocean and me

Photo taken by me earlier today.

tonight, i long to be the moon

tonight, i long to be the moon

sitting on this lonely beach
i know you have never been mine
yet i wonder if you are alone
or nestled in someone else’s arms
has he ever kissed your silences
embraced the painful tears that fall
like autumn leaves inside your soul
does he fill your nights with light
or inspire romance in your eyes
will he make your darkness his own
as he watches over you
tonight, my love
i long to be the moon

Photo taken by me on an evening tour of a lighthouse.

i pray for you

Something for a friend.

I pray for you

bless the morning sun
that warms your soft cheek
the syntax of your happiness
the affectionate words
that I never dared to speak
tonight, I quietly whisper
a hymn that I once knew
before the altar of your words
I kneel and pray for you

oceans apart

When I made my move to Florida, my precious friend Maria Elena of A Gypsy at Heart said the words “oceans apart, only a thought away.” The words were so inspiring, I asked her permission to use them in a poem.

Please, follow A Gypsy At Heart. She will introduce you to the people, sights, and scents of the wonderful places she visits giving every destination (Hamburg, Bangkok, Provence, and so many others) their own intriguing personality.

oceans apart

gazing at the vast waters
between us
one consolation keeps me breathing
i can still think of you
for it is
our brief conversations
that fill my bones with hope
igniting a burning passion
in my soul
that no bottomless sea
could ever douse
tonight, like every other night
my heart seeks solace
oceans apart
only a thought away

the theory of you and me

the theory of you and me

never understood
the theory of everything
yet I am smart enough to theorize
my wine would be sweeter
coming from your lips
the stars more brilliant
in the galaxy of your eyes
no need to hypothesize
don’t always comprehend
what you are doing to me
for I am a virgin in love
since everything is so new
today, I finally understood
i wasn’t born
until the moment
i discovered you

my tiny hut: making it girlfriend friendly

my tiny hut: making it girlfriend friendly

When I decided to build a tiny home, I asked myself what I needed. Tired of bouncing from friend’s home to friend’s home, from hotel to hotel. I needed 3 things; a place to write, sleep, and store my belongings.

Then, I added a fourth. it needed to be appealing to my future lady, the girl I haven’t met. I don’t expect any woman to quit her job or career, but I want her to be comfy knowing we have a little place to escape, not far from the beach.

So, I added touches for a woman’s comfort.

The windows are slightly tinted. Sunlight will enter but never overwhelm. The heavy drapes will prevent light from disturbing at night in case she is a light sleeper.

Of course a powerful A/C, celing fan, and generator for when the electricity goes out.

Finally, plenty of light (14 ceiling lights), in case she is a reader/writer/blogger.

And when she wants no lights, we can set the mood. (16 different colors)

Speaking of light, when she presses the red button of light on the bathroom mirror…

She has light.

Since we are talking bathrooms. I love rain showers, but just in case we are going out and she doesn’t want to wet her hair, there is a handheld rain shower.

Of course, a walk-in closet with shoe rack (but you already knew that). GO YANKEES.

A king sized bed (Beach Boy likes to frolic) with two USB night tables so she can charge her mobile devices by the bed. Bedroom set also included a matching dress/mirror.

Hopefully, the girl I haven’t met will feel comfy here.

I never cook when I am on the island. So kitchen and livingroom will be added on a future trip. More bedrooms? Depends on how many children she may have. We will decide that when the time comes.

Ladies, what have I missed?

Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go……
