Cleansed

unnamed (1)

Somme-in a little different.

Cleansed

.

It was a lucid afternoon
Straight out of my dreams
We laughed and loved
Feasting on Pepsi, popcorn, and poetry

Drawing her a warm bath
I attempted to read Neruda
Yet she had other plans

Reciting pink verses
Red rhymes cascaded from her glossy lips
Like slippery suds of passion
Soaking me with love

Words floated like translucent bubbles
Washing my flaws, fears, and pain
Rinsing my body, purifying my heart
Baptizing my soul

My beloved took a bath
It was me that she cleansed.

.

This poem came from a prompt from my mentor Nandita Yata.  Hopefully, she will approve.

  1. Do you realize how difficult you’ve made it for me, darling? I have a dual role to play…

As a mentor, this is what i say:
This was somme-in you haven’t done, free verse and you did wonderful job. You opened your poem so evocatively, raising the anxiety in me to see what comes next. The pink verses and red rhymes followed by suds of passion and bubbles of love…oh my! It was a tale dipped in romance of the highest order. And your mentor is left bathing in the luxury of your fine pen.

Now, the muse in me is pushing the mentor away as she can’t stop gushing over your love. I love love love our nights of pepsi and popcorn. And your serenades…swoon. You singing to me while i ‘crunch’, and so many other things… what beautiful love we live! I love you, i do not care what your readers say.

Your mentor is proud and pleased and your muse is ecstatic and glowing, with pink verses and red rhymes that she is ready to lather on you tonight.

    Xoxoxo te amo tanto.
    Love it ❤️❤️❤️

    1. Your reaction overwhelmed me. I am going crazy that you liked it. You know I am not one to pen free verse. Also thrilled that the muse is happy and gushing. You know how I wrote this; just like everything else I write. Last two lines first.
Thank you for your support and the way you take the time out to make me a better writer. And thank you for the way you love and care about me. You make me feel so happy and special.
      Isn’t that somme-in?
      I love you too. ❤ ❤ ❤

      1. And the baptized soul…I cannot believe you used that line. You are so so amazing. This is the trouble with poets falling in love. Everything we say to each other becomes our poetry. 😂

  3. Exquisitely expressed with words that tantalize and tease and breathe and weave a story that is so boldly yet softly spoken. Your Talent is phenomenal! Now where do I find a man like this one? Brava!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

      1. When I read words like yours, I’m just taken away by the Talent that is before me. I hope you know, really KNOW, how Gifted you are. Not everyone can put words together like you can. And yes I know what a sincere thank you and compliment means. 😘

  4. Wow! I like how your words seem to flow and cascade into one another Andrew! I also like that tub! Unlike most guys,
I prefer to spend time relaxing in a nice hot bath instead of standing in a invigorating shower. But, sorry, I don’t read poetry in the tub.

    1. Haha Pleased you enjoyed this Linda. I know everyone is focusing on this poet who is about to read this poetry, but this is really about the magical siren who can make him feel so many things with her words. To the point of cleansing him.
Thank you for your wonderful words and support. I so appreciate it
