Yeah, the first draft is just the formulating of ideas. Editing is everything. I am all caught up with your diary. so I will be spending some time with your Soldier series.
Interesting. Most of the time I don’t edit my work (except if I have misspelled something or missed out a letter or two as I type fast) and this is the second time I am seeing advice that one should edit the work. Perhaps there is some good thing in editing
Oh man. Are you serious? Well for a long piece of work like a novel it is where you formuate the body and sou of your story. Thanks for stopping by. Careful with the crap droppings I leave behind. lol
Lol. I write collected short stories mainly since adolescence and since I started the blog I write the stories in chapters all in one go and the same editing I use for my poetry goes for those chapters. I am thinking now that perhaps this is not a good thing
lol! I think I write crap when I feel like I should write something but what I need to say hasn’t simmered long enough. We’re human, the search engines aren’t…I’ve read many good things from you.
Oh, thank you. There are days I am certain I write art amd then I read the same stuff a day later and I swear its crap. Odd breed we writers are. Really thaks for the vote of confidence. I appreciate it.
It is art…it’s just there is good art and art that is lacking…and when your head and heart is in it, you can’t be objective about it. Even when we create crappy art though…we learn from it. There’s much more highly, technical craft out there used to sell whatever, than real art. Don’t be too hard on yourself and please, don’t be too hard on me! lol! I’m terrible at sales.:0)
Hahaha. I try not to be terrible with anyone. I do suffer from the affliction of being tough on myself. Thanks so much for this conversation. You made me smile. Have a good weekend.
….and the exercise handouts I used to provide to my patients doubled as spare toilet paper in times of emergencies! 😀 I love it; finding a positive spin in almost every situation is possible. This attitude make it a lot easier to stand up and dust oneself off after a misstep. Nice to start a day on a positive note. Thank you.
I did and would like to thank you for all your help. You have a loyal following that really trust your opinions.
An Australian fellow blogger had also placed a 40 minute interview he had with me (Skyped) on the topic of Obesity on Facebook that same day which also increased traffic to my site. I appreciate everyone’s help in assisting with spreading the messages that mean so much to me. Having friends like the two of you that obviously care about people help me re-balance and re-energize my own emotions. I can’t thank you enough.
Whether or not we’re afraid of writing crap, there will always be someone ready to say that is what we’ve done. So, I figure we might as well write to please ourselves (crap or no).
Great advice!! In my case, I’m impulsive and like instant gratification, so it’s a discipline to let something sit and go back to edit later. But, it is so worth it! I’m learning slowly but surely. Thank you for reminding me!
🍃🌺
Ah, instant gratification. I love your honesty. It is so refreshing. I write novels so I spend hours editing. For your poems editing is not a big a chore or necessity. Wither way, I love your writing. Thanks for stopping by to visit.
I wish I had the courage to write a novel. I imagine it can be exhilarating and draining at the same time. Good on you 😊
I’ve not crossed over the mental bridge in my brain yet. It’s like a wall that my thoughts are stuck behind. It’s very frustrating.
I look forward to reading your novel 😊
Exactly. It is both. Especially the draining part. But you do it one day at a time. One page at a time. You are such a good writer I bet you can do it.
I like that, one day at a time. I admire your drive and positive spirit. You are inspiring 😊
I always wanted to write a novel, but the most ridiculous reason kept me from doing it. The same reason that always made it hard for me to choose a major in college…
Would it be of benefit to mankind and would it serve a higher purpose?
I’m embarrassed to admit I was so scrupulous, arrogant and indecisive. It paralyzed me.
I try to be as positive as possible. The biggest challenges of writing a novel, is what you have to do once it is done. The revisions and finding someone to represent it. Any book can be a benefit if it entertain or teaches. Don’t let anything in this life paralyze you.
You are so right. I’m older and wiser now. I realize there can be the greatest value in seemingly innocuous things.
I always imagined the hardest part would be creating.
You are always a treasure trove of kindness & information.
I hope you have a wonderful Saturday, Andrew. 🍃🌺
Thank you. 😊 Yes, I’m going to try to post. I get discombobulated trying to catch up on Instagram, using one device and on here & Twitter using another
device. I can’t imagine living in the days of quill and ink! 😏
Oh, I am the same way when it comes to writing crap. I just wear boots when I do. Thanks for stopping by. I will be at your blog later. Take care my friend.
LOL Don’t say that. All the writer was trying to say was get words down on paper. The first draft is rarely good. smile. Thanks for stopping by to read.
I always think my work is… well maybe not a crap but nothing special and just thought about it as whispers of my heart, just my world… but every now and then I’m writing something brilliant… lol
Yeah… lol I’m just too big perfectionist and I’m too critical about my own writing. for me it’s always not good enough but I learned that I’m doing it for myself… it’s just nice to know there is someone who likes it and it’s not a coquetry when I’m blushing on someone’s words saying my poems are beautiful or they moved them… it will always be big thing that ppl wants to read my poems.
You have a loyal follower in me. I want to read your stuff. Go ahead and blush. lol Don’t be hard on yourself. If you keep writing you will eventually get an ear for your own work.
Thank you me dear.. sweet friend. you are really kind and interesting and brilliant poet. you have loyal follower in me too. I love your work. Mwah… 🌹😊
My chief mantra! 😀 Nothing fixes crappy writing like excellent editing!
